Scrambled Eggs

It's been about two weeks since Mike passed away and my heart still aches every day to hear his voice on the other end of the phone or to see an email message from him in my inbox. Every day has brought new memories and more tears. Today, was a better day, I finally faced a memory that had me not knowing whether to laugh or cry!

It all started when I was fixing myself some scrambled eggs for breakfast. You see, I have this really weird habit that most people laugh at or some just keep quiet about because it is so perplexing to them. Ever since I can remember I have 'deumbilicordized' my eggs before I scramble them. Meaning, I take a spoon and chop off, then scoop out the little white thing attached to the yolk - something I've always considered to be the chickens' umbilical cord. For whatever reason, this is just not something I am able to even think about consuming. I know, I know, I'll eat a hot dog, but I won't let this tiny piece of white substance get scrambled in with my eggs. So, anyway, I was talking to my brother on the phone just a couple of months ago and I happened to be making some scrambled eggs for myself. Somehow we got on the subject of the eggs and before I said anything about my 'weird' habit, Mike said, "you know, I can't eat eggs unless I take the umbilical cord out first." I about fell over - I couldn't believe it!!! I told him that I had the exact same 'obsession' and we both died laughing. Now I often wonder…maybe I'm not so weird after all.

Thank you Mike for giving me a laugh today when I was cooking breakfast; you smiled down on me today and I smiled back.

Love,
Stephanie
